Lagniappe

What's a Lagniappe?

Pronounced "lanyap." Lagniappe is a Southern word meaning a bonus gift given by merchants to their customers. According to Robert Hendrickson in Whistlin' Dixie: A Dictionary of Southern Expressions, it derives from the American Indian word yapa which moved over to Spanish as la nappa, and then on into Southern. On this site, lagniappe are the little extras I've thrown in, hoping to amuse you.
